This paper seeks to present insights about the functional categories of small clauses. In order to prove this hypothesis I analyze both AgrP categories and PrP categories with their semantic properties.
SCs within AgrP say that AgrP structure accounts for the maximum projection with the head Agr. Therefore, AgrP structure abides by the 'projection principle' and maintains the uniform of the subcategorization for SCs. Features of [＋AgrP] can be found in small clauses whereas those of [＋TNS] cannot. However, AgrP categories present the problem of the 'minimalist program' which Chomsky(1995 b) has presented. On the other hand, PrP categories give a sense of definitive, uniform structure toward the definition of external argument and predication related to both small clauses and main clauses. The advantage of the PrP categories solves the problem of finding an appropriate, dominating node for the SC constructions within the framework of the x-bar theory. PrP categories not only maintain uniformity within the x-bar theory but their presence is also found within the co-ordinating conjunctions and positions of adverbs. Finally I try to find Korean small clauses and analyze according to the types of predicates to clarify the syntactic and semantic properties of different from English sc.
