This paper explores the syntactic phenomena in small clauses with predicative nominals in English and investigates into the agreement phenomena that occur in them. I argue, modifying Aarts (1992) and den Dikken (1994), that small clauses form TPs that involve AgrsP, and suggest that the (null) copular BE is base-generated in V and it moves to Agr to percolate its features to that functional category in overt syntax. It is shown that multiple Agree induced by the copular BE results in agreement in small clauses in English. This analysis also extends to small clauses in French and possibly other languages. To sum up, the null copular BE mediates between subjects and predicate nominals in small clauses in inducing agreement that holds between them, and agreement in small clauses is nicely explained in terms of Agree in the Minimalist framework.
