Interactive learning is considered a key element of communicative language teaching because most meaning is a product of negotiation as interlocutors attempt to communicate. In fact, current theories of communicative competence emphasizes the essentially interactive nature of communication. It is, however, often difficult for EFL teachers to select a textbook appropriate for students of various levels and interests. Although audio and video texts used in classes as a supporting material are efficient ways to provide authentic pronunciation and stimulus, teachers often experience inconvenience in editing or repeatedly getting access to important and relevant subjects or parts. Recent technology has made it possible for teachers to use listening materials interactively. The purpose of this study is to examine if interactive listening through the nonlinear use of materials contributes to improve comprehension of EFL students. After traditional and interactive listening are used, listening comprehension scores are compared between the two groups regarding students' listening scores of a proficiency test, a short-term and a long-term achievement test and students' interests levels. The implications for the findings are also discussed.
