In this paper, first of all, I discuss Pollard & Sag's (1992) A-binding theory in terms of obliqueness hierarchy and local o-binding. I show how Pollard and Sag's (1992) analysis works, and present an alternative analysis within the minimalist framework that makes use of the concept of matching. Slightly modifying Chomsky's (1999, 2000) Agree-based theory, I argue that local anaphor binding phenomena result from AGREE based on the matching between the reference features of an anaphor and a nominal expression. I claim that an anaphor has an uninterpretable reference feature and a nominal expression has an interpretable reference feature so as to paly a role of PROBE and GOAL, respectively. Based on the matching condition of PROBE and GOAL, I prove how the uninterpretable reference feature of the PROBE recovers the reference in the DOMAIN of PROBE, and then why the Principle A of binding theory may be replaced by the AGREE-based reference assignment of anaphors.
