The study is primarily empirical and uses a global data set comprising information on 10 global service firms in 39 countries. The firms were initially selected by using published rankings of firms by size in 10 different sectors such as banking, accountancy, advertising, insurance, law, management consultancy and so on. The information on the finn's office location in a country was derived from their web sites. The empirical model includes a wide range of explanatory variables of capital markets such as total value of share trading, total value of bond trading, and number of listed companies. In addition to standard macroeconomic variables, foreign direct investment data from United Nations Conference on Trade and Development's trade statistics, and country dummies for China, USA, and UK were included in the empirical analysis. It is done a systematic analysis of determinants of location choice of global financial firms across countries, using number of global financial firms on cross-country and index of domestic stock market development. The finding is countries with more developed domestic stock market and with bigger bilateral foreign direct investments are likely to attract global financial firms.
