The purpose of this study is to find out the concept of alternative history based on fantasy literature and to deal with aspect of alternative history expressed from recent popular fusion historical drama.
In particular, paper include research on performance and limitation of alternative history genre from 〈TAEWANGSASINGI〉, the first fantasy historical drama in Korea, which have good public interest with making lots of issue.
Alternative history start from one question, “If historical event have another option, how is it changed from past to future?”, and begin to appear in SF literature actively for upset history of dignity such as called a thought experiment.
The research focus on one fact that alternative history can be divided into two format based on story line, the first thing overturns certain historical event called standard format, another one is mixed with two different accidents in history called modified format.
Especially analyzed case of 〈TAEWANGSASINGI〉, the most popular drama last year, creates new alternative history by combining history between “Hwan Woong Myth” and “The Great King Kwangkaeto” successfully.
New virtual world is created from mixing two different history have important meaning on driving universal emotion crossing time and space.
Because anyone can enjoy and create storyline without certain historical background plus improve the possibility of global contents by decreasing cultural barrier. In short, this study shows the achievement and guideline dealing with how is unknown SF genre which is called alternative history change our current storyline.
