According to archeological and documentary sources, Chinese music has existed since ca 3,000 BC. Historically, the first field to develop in music is percussion, and then wind and string instrumental music, which reflects human emotions most fundamentally.
China is no exception to this rule Among musical instruments listed in the Book of Odes, China's first collection of songs, about moreover twenty kinds of percussion and wind and string instruments. Throughout their long history, these instruments continued to influence both folk and court music. Thus becoming an important medium for China's expressive arts. This is especially the case of Peking Opera, often referred to as the essence of Qing dynasty performing arts, which uses an eclectic performative style combining music, dance and play. Instrumental music plays a very important role in the music of Peking Opera, and this articlefocuses precisely on this role and on the aesthetics of instrumental music in Peking Opera-The Role and Aesthetics of Instrumental Music in Peking Opera.
