The main characters of Conrad's novel claim their right to create their own world by their particular visions, by which they rejects any fixed system which involves psychological, mechanical, moral, and scientific determinism. However, The extreme affirmation of subjectivity might threaten the possibilities of interactions and communication among characters. Conrad's major characters may be interpreted as existentialists. Nevertheless, the overemphasis on individual consciousness undermines Conrad's art.
Despite the threat of solipsism, Conrad's characters overcome their self-imposed boundary through intense interaction. Conrad's design does not allow monological vision: his characters influence, interact and coexist with one another. Dynamic interaction of plural voices could be found in Conrad's major texts, and no single consciousness totally predominates over those of the other character.
