This study aims at the aspects of continuity of Korean poetry in the enlightened period. The continuity of poetry in that period is embodied into the genre, form, style and thought. The continuity of the genre is realized through the traditional genre, namely, Chinese poetry, gasa, sijo, eunmun-pungwol, folk song. Especially 880works of gasa and 660 works of sijo were writtened in that period.
On the assumption of the massive creation of traditional poetry, we must regard the enlightened period's literature as the summit of traditional poetry. The contiuity of traditional poetry has something to do with the enlightenment, restoration of national identity, variablity of genre. The continuity of form is embodied into 4 line sijo, 4 line changga, eunmun-pungwol and the poetry of 4 season form.
The continuity of style is embodied into Chinese writing style for the expresson of conservative thought through the grave form. The continuity of thought is embodied into the conservative thought in gasa of righteous army, sawhi-deung gasa and the silhak thought in gaewha gasa.
The continuity of enlightened period's poetry is various and solid. Accordingly we must sublate the theory of traditional extinction and cultural transplantation in the history modern Korean literature.
