Compared to other parts of research articles, acknowledgements of research articles have received little attention for genre analysis, especially from a contrastive perspective. The present paper examines 160 acknowledgement texts written in English and Korean with an aim to find similarities and differences between them. The findings indicate that Korean scholars prefer simpler texts than writers in English and that they entertain acknowledgment texts less than English writers. Also while Korean scholars follow acknowledging conventions practiced in the field, they conform to the acknowledging norms available in the Korean academic communities. A pedagogical implication is raised as to whether EAP courses should guide Korean writers to follow the conventions practiced in English speaking communities when they write in English.
