Today, ASEAN plays a major role in economic, social and political development in Southeast Asia as well as beyond the region. Air transportation is one of the fundamental sectors, which cannot be overlooked in the region as it contributes to the strength of the economy of the region in general and to the development of tourism in particular. However, due to the Asian economic crisis, which started in 1997, ASEAN region"s tourism industry had experienced hard time and also without a doubt, such adversity has had divesting effects on the airline industry. They can have either short or long-term consequences for industry, region and countries. The rationale for this paper is to highlight the issue of crisis management in the Airline industry following unexpended financial crisis and the purpose of this study is to analyse the responses and changes that the airlines can take in order to improve their operating efficiency. It is believed that the economic crisis could offer lessons on how the airline industry can cope with similar situations in the future. The ability of developing pre-plan for tragedy situations will be a major strength of the firms. This paper is therefore attempt to overview the situations of the ASEAN airlines generated by the Asian economic crisis as well as examine the factors influencing their actual position.
