This study is aimed to explore that the educational mission of the faith-community should nurture or set up the new consciousness of modern man in the post-information society. In tradition it has been recognized that the faith-community has focused on the development and nurture of the human beings by means of its proper education. However this research attempts to figure out that the faith-community should prefer to bring up the new consciousness of modern man as another mission of its education in addition to the faith development. As to speak, the great emphasis must be placed on the education of the faith community to parallel the formation of the new consciousness and the growth of the faith.
In this sense, this paper is composed of three parts: firstly, the origin and function of the faith community which was risen from the early Christian Church in the perspective of the sociology; secondly, the dialectic relationship of the change of the consciousness of the individual to the development and change of the modern technological society, and its various characteristics; and thirdly, the definition and responsibility of the education of conscientization and the formation of the new consciousness which should be appropriated in the post-information society.
Especially this paper is to represent the process of the socialization as the unique education of conscientization which Thomas H. Groome already inquired on the basis of John Westerhoff III. The latter shows up 'the religious socialization' or 'the enculturation of the faith' for the development of the individual faith in the faith-community. Simultaneously this paper is critically selecting the theory of the socialization to adopt the education of conscientization to the formation of new consciousness of modern man. Finally the kinds of new consciousness which should be formated in the faith community are presented as follows: firstly, the transcendent value system of the individuals to overcome the refracted consciousness of modern society which has influenced to the internet and cyber culture of modern society; and secondly, the consciousness of community which should be emerged form the conscious revolution of the post-information society.
