The possibility of unique thought shown in the novels in the 1960s could be found in Buddhism, shamanist customs and Confucianism. First of all, the possibility of Buddhism and shamanist customs was suggested by Kim Dong-ri. Kim Dong-ri's views on literature that accepted Buddhism and shamanist customs in world literary dimension from the colonial period were developed in two directions in the novels in the 1960s.
First, shamanist customs in 「Munyeodo (Shaman's story」 appeared as a way of preserving folk thought with a strong intention of subjects that pursued the unity with the world through the project of subjects. Second, the self-destruction of subjects was noticeable in 「Kkachisori (Magpie)」 in the chaos that combined the misery of the war with the mythological world.
On the contrary, Confucianism found in the novels written by Hwang Sun-won and Oh Young-su embodied the intention of re-building the community based on kindly Korean feelings (sympathy) and was concretely described with maternal power that aroused toleration and solidarity. Such a trend could be named as the so-called ‘Korean humanism’ in terms of depicting the dignity of life while reorganizing daily life in place of the fathers who were absent due to the war.
