The purpose of this study was to systematically compare and analyze between actual/current) dance lessons and the idealistic dance lessons perceived by dance teachers on lesson purposes and lesson contents of the dance classes. The population of this study was middle and high school teachers who are in charge of dance lessons within the boundary of city of Seoul. A total of 185 (112 middle school and 73 high school) teachers were selected through random sampling. Among the sampled population 79 middle school teachers and 53 high school teachers were the final population used for this study. As for the research method, survey was given out to the population of this study and was instructed to follow the self-administration method. The validity and reliability of the survey was verified by expert convention and through preliminary inspection. For the closed items, frequency analysis, Spearman's rank correlation coefficient, and X²(chi-square) test were used. The following results were displayed through this study:
First, there is no difference between actual and idealistic lesson purposes priority rankings of middle school dance lesson teachers. Second, there is no difference between actual and idealistic lesson contents priority rankings of middle school dance lesson teachers. Third, there is significant difference between actual and idealistic ratio of dancing to theory and whether or not provided opportunity to spectate dance performance.
