This study is to describe the importance of early childhood physical education and to understand practice physical education by examining and comparing 214 articles from 1977 to 2001 researching on physical education of infancy.
The results of the study are as follow :
At first, physical education of infancy is aimed to meet the demand of movement, which is one of the human desires.
Secondly, infancy is the period when infants develop physically, socially, culturally, linguistically, cognitively, and emotionally. In this period infants are able to develop learning ability through play and movement.
Third, physical education of infancy have effects on growth facilitation, development of physical ability, and development of exercise ability.
Fourth, by the year 1980, there were 6 theses researching in infant Physical Education (2.80%), there were 40 theses (18.68%) in the first half of 1980/s(1981 - 1985). Researches have been increasing since 1990 ; there were 123 infant Physical Education theses(57.48%). It was increased irregularly in the late 1990/s.
Fifth, The 214 presented researches were assorted by the four major different fields, which were sport sociology 92(42.30%), physical development 42(19.63%), education curriculum 23(10.75%), physical education teaching 16(7.68%), dance 13(6.07%), sport psychology 7(3.27%), special physical education 7(3.27%), public health 4(1.87%), foundation of physical education and philosophy 3(1.47%), sport physiology(1.40%), physical education administration and management 2(0.93%), and measurement evaluation 1(0.47%).
