This study is to investigate the meaning and etymological meaning of No. 3, 4, 1, 5, 7, 9 Koreans like best and search out the basic cause from which thinking the numeric concept have been originated.
We remember that we made decision by 3 times in some plays in our childhood. This shows that No. 3 has been considered to be very important to us Koreans. This thesis explains the reason why that kind of concept has been made by searching out how much No. 3 has to do with Koreans and how it relate to something in China, Buddhism or some other provinces and what it means to Koreans and what the etymological meaning is.
Koreans think No. 3 to be important and like it very much.
SAM-SHIN(progenitor of Koreans), March 3rd(religions service day to Heaven), SAM-SHI(morning of the New Year's day), SAM-JAE of vowel in Korean alphabet(heaven, earth and man), SAM-SUNG of Korean(1st sound, medial of orthographic syllable, final consonant), SAM-HAN(southern 3 countries in ancient history), SAM-GAK-SAN(3mts. in Seoul)have the numeric meaning of something primitive, indispensable, important and good.
No. 3 also means everything, serious decision and common designation in the date of March 1st, 33 persons in the Declaration of Independence and 3 countries era, 3 Buyeo in our ancient history, SAM-DAI SUNG(3assortments in Korean classical music), SAM-JAB I(3 players), SAM-HYON(3 strings), SAM-GEOM(3 inspections of dead body in homi-cide), SAM-GAN TAEK (3selections of spouse for ling or prince) and etc. have the same meaning. So, we know that No.3 has the special mean-ing of core and whole.
