This study is about the special feature of the enshrining rites of iron-made horse in the Korean village shrine. Specially, it is took notice of the relation of blacksmith.
First, this rites are concentrated in the region of Gangwondo and horse models are enshrined plurally.
And it is special that the cases related blacksmith of the enshrined origin are abundant.
Second, it is background that blacksmiths enshrined the model in village shrine.
In social standing, there is familiarity between blacksmith and shaman and it is the basis explaining religious character. In religious background, it is thought that the blacksmith worshiped the horse and remain custom of ‘a victim of horse’ and the custom enshrining iron-made model of the horse was fixed.
In social background, the relationship between the blacksmith and the inhabitant is indivisible and it is background that an inhabitant adopted the custom enshrining iron-made model of the horse.
Finally, it is thought thar the primary purpose of enshrining iron-made model of the horse is promotion of their job and the purpose corresponded with inhabitant’s various purposes, so the iron-made model of the horse has been seated to a thing attached to village’s God.
