The aim of this article is to review on Kim, Man-il, an military officer from Jeju island, in the mid Joseon period. Kim, Man-il died in 1633, reportedly bought up to 80 years old. It was a turbulent period in which he lived, Joseon, Japan and China participated in the war, to the Ming and Qing change followed. So, at that times, Joseon government was desperately needed war horses and Kim, Man-il was to correspond well to the demand of the government like this.
Joseon government at those times did not want to get the key materials like war horses from a person. Because it wanted to make the system avoiding to rely the strategic materials on a person, but the trials turned out to be failed. It appointed Kim to senior office which had not been given to a person from Jeju. Kim was clever to manage his war horse assets to get his status higher, and the government gave him high offices for the stable horse supply.
