This paper shows the archetypal-symbols pattern and postmodernity of Sowol's poetry based on his unconsciousness. Especially, his poetry are characterized by the universal archetypal pattern among all styles of Korean poetry.
First of all, Sowol's poetry have two kinds of archetypal-symbols pattern, one is the pattern by time and the other is by space. The archetypal-symbols pattern by time is composed of two ways of principle, one is the natural order of “Life is subject to decay”, and the other is the natural order of “Those who must meet part”. That is, the theme of this pattern is “death and transcendental”, which opened up the post-modernity horizons.
Next, the archetypal-symbols pattern by space is composed of two worlds, one is the nature world, and the other is his dream. Nature world and his dream were his ideal worlds over his grief. Furthermore, the nature and dream's world are belong to not only for the post-imperialism but also the post-modernity. That is, the theme of this pattern is “living and paradise”.
