The history of prose in Korean Chinese-written literature is dated back to 2000 years ago. An archaic style had been used for 600 years, and 四六騈儷文 has been used more than 1,300 years. Scholars has focused primarily on the archaic style in the field of prose, but studies on 四六騈儷文 should be more actively conducted. This paper has delved into the artistic accomplishments of 四六騈儷文 through the analysis of Chi-Won Choi's 檄黃巢書.
This thorough and systematic study on 檄黃巢書 reveals that it displays the perfect beauty of form and content. In addition, This study shows that 四六騈儷文 in Korean Chinese literature came to culmination in the 9th century. 檄黃巢書, whose masterly adroitness is at peak as 四六騈儷文, is worth being recognized, and yet Its historical significance, I think, should not be overestimated. It should be noted that intellectuals in their writings cannot go beyond a given limit thrust upon by historical reality.
