The aim of this paper is to study the existence and quality of fishery folksong in the east coast. To research these, I studied the aspect of literacy and musical qualities by regional groups. The results are as follows;
From song for twisting rope to the song for returning home, fishery folksongs are very different in the text of leading song and receiving song, tune and pitch. Especially, the song of pulling an oar has diversity. melodic structure of these folksong show the similarity. It is made commonly by the four degree-from ‘mi’ to ‘ra’-. And the final interval is ‘sol’ or ‘mi’.
Receiving song have two aspects. The one is traditional style text, and the other is japanese style text. In the south of east coast has the korean syle and japanese syle otherwise east coast of north korea has korean syle.
Usually leading song reflect the fisher’s emotion, feeling, ideology. From the leasing song, we can know the fact char they want richness, love and safety very well. And some texts are connected with the working state and others have no connection with the fishing work. As a instruction song for work is connected with the former, but deploring song, song regarded with feeling of futility are connected with the latter.
