This study was to compare achievement motivation among Korean pastors and American pastors. The pastors of two denominations were chosen from each country: a liberal Methodist denomination and a conservative Presbyterian denomination. The questionnaires, including the Achievement Orientation scale to measure achievement motivation, were sent to 1,200 randomly selected pastors. A total of 397 male pastors participated. A 2×2 factorial design (Country × Denomination) was used. Independent variables were country and denomination, and dependent variables were the score of the Achievement Orientation Scale. According to the data analysis, Korean pastors appeared to be more motivated to achieve than American pastors. In addition, there were significant differences between two denominations in achievement motivation. Korean Presbyterian pastors were more achievement oriented than their Methodist counterparts. In contrast, American Methodist pastors were more achievement oriented than their Presbyterian counterparts. Age and achievement motivation were positively correlated in Korean samples.
