Oh Jang Whan’s poems show the figures of cognitive system which reflect the trend of literature and social situation through a subjective reformation of poet. The poems start from a negative thinking of Confucianism. His unique family background and social situation affects his negative thinking of Confucianism and traditional customs in the viewpoint of psychology. These reflect his will of a subjective poet to talk about problems of Confucianism thoughts and traditional society and to find out a new way of thinking. He thought that traditional customs, family trees and family name were unnecessary. His poems reflect a critical and a sneering viewpoint which intend to show contradiction and inappropriateness of ruling class. He shows a negative viewpoint of traditional society by ignoring family name and making fun of traditional customs in his poems.
The discovery of home affects his consciousness of reality and is a main theme of his poems written in late 1940’s. His will of the discovery of home is used as a compensation of the loss of writer’s subjective consciousness to overcome reality and expand his consciousness to transcendental world. It means neglection of corrupted reality and dream of utopia. The discovery of home in his poems means his subjective world and utopia. Also, he tries to express home as a common place of people and look at it in his objective viewpoint.
The subjective poet gives the idea of the world of circulation by expressing life and death. The meaning of death is not sacrifice anymore. It implies religious solemnity and shows the world of circulation. The nature used in his poems is the place to give life and creative thinking.
