This paper is researched on the planting design for the traditional trees. Human is related strongly with the trees in the history and has lived with raising, nursing and planting the trees. These can be figured out in the chronicles of the Three States, heritage of the Three States, the history of the ancient Korean state, the authentic record of Chosun dynasty as well as a mural painting of Koguryo's ancient tomb and a poem, a writing and a painting until recent times through our history. This paper is studying with the question of how to describe and to plant trees. The method of this research is found out the planting patterns and types to analyze and to classify the chronicles of the Three States, the heritage of the Three States, the history of the ancient Korean state, the authentic record of Chosun dynasty and including with the various records, that is paintings and old maps. And these finding meanings and functions can be contributed for the field of landscape architecture and the related field. The faithful tree of God in the article of the old Chosun, the heritage of the Three States is a specimen tree as one single tree. This tree is located in the center and is a faithful tree as a symbolic tree with a function of the religion and the community. This specimen tree has various species according to their functions and their regions. The planting is classified with symmetrical, lineal and grouping type, and the system of meanings can be grouped into tree, forest, plant and grouping or lineal trees, etc. In Chosun dynasty, the pattern of symmetrical plantings can be a fixed form with expressing the types of arranging buildings in the palace, the royal ancestors' shrine, the guardian deities of the State, a national school annexed to the Confucian shrine, a local school annexed to the Confucian shrine, the literary and militarily offices as well as government offices. This kind of planting types are related with the iconography as well as the octagon decimal diagrams. The planting of left and right positions in the center axis of building, that is a bilateral symmetry can be found as the symbol of authority. And the tree species can be understood the relation with the symbolism.
