The purpose of this study is to find out the mental scenery in Cheongju City. The process of formation of mental scenery depends on the human perception and cognition. In the consequence of grasping the representative mental scenery of Cheongju City. the results are as following.
1) The 12 places were selected by interview to the citizens of Cheongju City. The main mental sceneries of Cheongju City are four types. that is ①the broad space(Joong-ang Park, Sang-dang Park, etc.), ②the linear path(U-am-san Circular Road. etc.), ③the landmark(U-am-san. Sang-dang-san-seong, etc.), ④the waterscape area(Mu-sim-cheon, the artificial waterfall, etc.,). 2) By investigating the stage to achieve the mental scenery (the perception→the cognition→the mental scenery), the major landscape element in the space exhibit a tendency to show the high recollect rate. 3) By investigating the case of Cheongju City. the broad space with partition off it’s around, and it has the landmark element is represent the high recollect rate.
The result show that ‘the plane expanse’, ‘the existence of the landmark’, ‘the divison from the environs’ are important element which had grown the mental scenery.
