The movement for the conservation of the historical and cultural environment is a global trend these days. Most countries are considering strategies for the effective conservation and development of these environments such as attempts to make and refurbish law and systems for the conservation of the historical and cultural environment through active efforts.
The law for the conservation of the historical and cultural environment in our country originates from the law for the protection of cultural heritage made in 1962. The historical and cultural environment includes national treasures, tangible treasures. historic sites, important data about folklore and architecture. etc as designated by the central government. In addition items designated by the local governments are classified as tangible cultural heritage, folk heritage, national monuments, and cultural heritage, etc. Also the government aims to preserve historic scenery by designating special areas for the protection of cultural heritage.
This study presents a number of measures to preserve the historical and cultural environment. If community movements such as "Teojeonbitneke" can be developed and promoted as regards r character, welfare, and participation, and they can improve regional character, promote welfare, and encourage the local people to participate in important projects, then the creation of a desirable local community environment as well as the conservation of historical and cultural environment will enter a new phase.
