When the present writer was recording and observing the exorcism in the form of sitting, I felt boring and monotonous of itself. Especially, the exorcism handed down in Chungcheong-do is mainly that the monk is reading aloud the scripture and tapping drum and gong simultaneously. Any exorcist did not exist that is feeling sad and crying for communicating a demon.
But the capturing and confining a demon(귀신착수) of Jo, Buwon’s supervising is different from other exorcism. This capturing and confining a demon is developed by communicating between man and demon and performing ritualistic act in unique ritual site. In opposite, a patient perceived the act and experienced the purification of emotion. The dramatic constituent is naturally equiped whenever the actor plays the act towards the spectators in any time and place. Therefore, the dramatic approach is possible. As a basis of this conception, this treatise is aim to find the intrinsic drama attributes in the capturing and confining a demon.
The exorcism of illness have a various form on account of performing circumstances. This exorcism is completely made up of three stages for the purpose of curing a disease. The construction of each stage is individually but harmoniously organized. Each stage as a subdiscipline of exorcism is orderly structured for curing a disease through eliminating the cause of disease. That is to say, the exorcism of illness is preventive for overcoming the illness, therefore, the preventive is summarized in eliminating the cause of disease. With reference to dramatic attributes, the space of ordinary life is created as a site for communicating between man and demon. The patient is absorbed in the spot with the expectation of reversing this situation. More than anything else, the patient and monk is thoroughly constructed with a view to solving the problem caused by patient and supernatural being.
As a consequence, this problem is connected with the exorcism’s identity and phase. That is to say, this treatise shows the a phase of performing illness’s exorcism in Chungcheongdo. In the future, the present writer is expected to discuss elaborately about this subject on the basis of the vast data.
