There are two constellations in the revelation of the photographs of torturing toward iraqi detainees by the U.S. soldiers in Abu Ghraib prison in October, 2004. In the narrow point of view, the photographs are placed upon a series of successive cruel cases in Iraq War. It is the kind of counteraction to the case of U.S. civilians executed and their bodies injured in Fallujah. That means on the processing Iraq War, photography has been used strategically and exercised the pre-test of cruelty. These aspects, intentional and strategical revelations of cruelty are hardly found in former wars.
It is the wide point of view of constellations that these aspects of cruelty always come with the war history. War shows the cruelty all the times and the aspects how represent the war have been changed historically. In the flow of history, the dialectics of body, sexual harassment, violent and desire have been operating in various ways. Nevertheless, body and war have been disciplined and trained under the strict rules for a long period of history and the violence to the body is not accidental but inevitable product of war. At the point this constellation has the character which is differentiated and repeated. From painting to photography, moving images and television and now current spread of internet, according to the change of medium, the methods and aspects of representing the cruelty in war have been changing and the differences of methods and aspects have brought to us new shock and fear.
Two factors can be noticed that intervened the photographies of Abu Ghraib ingeniously which are not found in previous war aspects. One is the rapid spread of the photographs to the public by internet and the revelation of cruelty is used strategically in the middle of war. The other is the encounter of the direction of sexual violence generally accused in war. We regard that sexual violence is done to woman by man, this photographies showed the opposite direction. We can see the image but we know noting when we see. While we don' t see anything nothing is remembered and images never become something indelible.
