The purpose of this study is to analyze the main features and natures of party competition after Democratization, focusing on the party system without labour. The main arguments of this study are as follows: First, party competition consists of six principal issue-dimensions in post-liberation Korean politics. Second, the feature of party competition under authoritarianism was based on an extreme antagonism between the government party vs the opposition party to focus on the limited issues. But the party competition in post-democratization can be characterized by a significant party difference on various issues to some extent.
Overall, this points imply that parties accepted various issues within the party system in order to adapt changing environment, despite the social basis of party system was weak. However, the overall pattern of party competition showed the nature of conservative competition, in which new cleavages to enter the political space has been blocked by inter-party collusion. And the results are the party system without labour and competition between the established political parties.
