This paper is a study of nature appeared in "the Mountain" and "the Field", Hyo-seok Yi's short stories. These two works are very important because of showing the most impressive scenes expressing the love of nature, and are known that they have a common theme, 'a praise of nature' or 'a praise of the natural life'. But natures in those two works have important differences in characters. So in this paper, I'll investigate those differences and try to understand the meaning of each work' nature has.
Conclusion : Nature and the natural life in "the Mountain" are plain and simple ones. But those in "the Field" are stereo and complex ones. These differences are caused by the other differences in relations of the social reality and nature, of the social reality and the hero in those two works. Nature in "the Mountain" is separated from the social reality, but the one in "the Field" is connected with it. The hero in "the Mountain" is separated from the social reality, but the one in "the Field" is connected with it. So, the hero in "the Mountain" starts a new life in harmony with nature, the hero in "the Field" only remains in nature with trouble about human nature and social reality. But each case can be interpreted to propose a methode to overcome troubles of humane and social reality. From this point of view, "the Mountain" can be interpreted to present an alternative plan about life style severing the social reality, "the Field" can be interpreted to propose to wait and prepare for future with a wish about the better world.
