An eschatology is one of the most important theological theme. Specially, a concept of the Kingdom of God is main a concept of eschatology. But through the history of christianity, it has been occasionally misunderstanding. There are two theories. One is a A. Schweitze's consistent eschatology. The other is C.H. Dodd's realized eschatology. Two theories concerning the nature of the kingdom of God have dominated biblical scholarship. The first theory is a Schweitzer's consistent eschatology, which argues that Jesus' pronouncements concerning the Kingdom of God should be interpreted against a background of Jewish apocalyptic eschatological expectations. The second theory is a Dodd's realized eschatology, which argues that the Kingdom of God with the first advent of Jesus actualized in Jesus' ministry.
In recent year a mediating perspective has developed that combines realized and consistent eschatology by Hemann Ridderbos. It means the kingdom of the God exists in a tension of this age and age to come. He integrate into a scheme of "already... but not yet". So at recent times, many scholar agree on the Kingdom of God is both present and at the same time future.
But, the scheme has some problem. It cause to confuse to exegesis some text of imminent parousia. I guess it was caused to misuse the word of parousia. Many people use it means revisiting, but it just means corning. By G. Vos, it means not revisiting but coming. So we can not apply the word to final revisiting of Jesus Christ. If we use the parousia to coming, we can know that some texts indicate to destruction of Jerusalem in A.D. 70.
