It is rare case that treats ‘language' to the main subject of novel in Korean literature circles. This paper considered chiefly in Lee Chung-jun's fictional languages in philosophical way. Lee recognized the language as intermediate of representation and novelized the critical attitude. It needs various theory of language-philosophy to examine Lee's language-cognition. Lee's language-cognition has extensive implication with Oriental-Occidental linguistic issues, so it could be a perfect study for discovering his viewpoint of novel, art, and the world.
In Lee's work, the question of ‘language' processed as follows, ‘Is it possible to keep truly communication by corrupted language in corrupted period? (diagnosis on corrupted language & period)', ‘Is it possible to write novel with corrupted language? (matter of fictional representation)' and 'There can be an alternative method which can exceed these limitation? (trial to find alternative method)'. From these questions he could change his form of novel and also we can deduce his viewpoint of language and novel.
Lee's language-cognition composed of various discourses on language. He made turn to good account for his topic with ‘Arbitrariness and Difference' of Sassure and critic on corrupted language of Benjamin and Heidegger. The antagonistic relation, originated in Lee's language-cognition, is pursuits new unification gradually. And the critical works on modern viewpoint of language, especially to the instrumental point, are processing to find new language and in this location, Oriental, Heidegger and Benjamin thesis are sinking into. Lee changes Heidegger's “Language is house of Being” to “Being is house of Language” and the discourse from language to being. The agreement between language and things destructed by prevalence of the ‘Arbitrariness’ is composed to ‘agreement between being and language’ or 'agreement between language and life'.
Lee checked the limitation of modern viewpoint of language, and novelized the process of solving. so the tendency of his novels changed accordingly. This process of changing is not a simple subject because it caused by writer's continual questioning about language. The skeptical view on autobiographical novel which lost the ‘agreement between Being and Language’ because of the prevalence of ‘Arbitrariness’, connected to liberal argument of novel and anti-conflict. And the limitation of fictional language pursuits ‘agreement of Being, Language and Life’. The search for 'Existential language' changed to new formation which composed with ‘Storytelling’. When the argument on ‘liberty of novel’ presented with ‘door’, pursuits to being above the boundary of confliction, the ‘narrative side’ presented with ‘house’, implicated the trial for new unification. Lee's language-philosophical consideration aims at totally critique of modern speculation on language.
