This study focuses on that Modern Korean got accomplished through influent translated words and especially the process "to be a national language". The process is divided into the end of 19th century and the beginning of 20th century. The former is related which character can be selected as an official language or a national language instead of Chinese characters. The latter is connected with the linguistic nationalism longing to change from a native language to a national language under the conditions that a native one was not a national one. This research is the basic one to examine the aspects of Modern Korean, thus considers for the nation and the intellectual to make the language of Joseon national language from linguistic viewpoints.
Though the letter of "national language" existed China, its present meaning can be interpretation or translation of European concepts.
Gojong announced "the Royal Order about Use of National Alphabet" in 1894. Then Joseon language or the Korean alphabet(Eonmun) began to be treated as national alphabet. In that period, the literary style and notation system received attention chiefly.
In 1910, for Joseon language to be a national language entered upon a new phase because of losing national prestige. It became the dialect or the colonial language as compared with Japanese as a national language. In that period, the process to be a national language was comprehended by the compilation of a dictionary and the regulation of the language of Joseon.
