This article aims to report the whole process of developing the one of multimedia teaching and learning sources for history education. This research's goal is to provide the advanced learning resources of students who are interested in the medieval history of Europe. The main target of this research is the medieval castles and cathedrals in Europe. They represent power and authority of medieval Europe, and were built by people at the top of the feudal system. They were the largest buildings of the Middle Ages. Large numbers of workmen using only muscle power and simple machinery toiled over long periods of time to create strong fortresses and beautiful churches. So, they are the real creatures of medieval men of Europe, and thus attract our attentions.
The informations that this research collected are the geographical and graphic image resources. They were acquired through the many internet sites and books about castles and cathedrals. So, this research provides so many geographical informations and architectural images about the remnants of the medieval castles and cathedrals. There are so many castles and cathedrals in Europe, so the last targets must be selected because of the restricted times of research.
The developed learning resource of medieval castles and cathedrals in Euroope consists of the two parts. One is basic course which explains the main stream and characteristics of medieval history and culture of Europe. They involve the general history of cathedrals and castles in Europe. And they also provide the explanations about the architectural terminologies of medieval castles and cathedrals.
The Second Part of this learning resource consists of the historical and architectural informations of medieval castles and cathedrals in main European countries. 85 medieval cathedrals are selected and 91 castles were selected in 13 European countries.
