This article has three tasks: the first is to address the recent woman's issues, the second, to diagnose the reality of woman's digitalization and the third, to argue the spirituality of women in prospect. The paper is comprised of three sections: New Millennium Issues of Korean Women, Realities of Women's Digitalization, and A New Account of Woman Spirituality in Protestant Christian Perspective.
With the change of the times, Korean women now face with six issues. First issue is celibacy, so called, "singles," a new life style which preferred mostly by women in Korea. Second issue is a drastic increase of women's participation in economic activity. Third issue is a rapid increase rate in divorce. Fourth issue is that Korean women's childbirth rate is decreasing. Fifth issue is defamation of women's life through abortion and plastic surgery. Sixth issue is appearance and well-being syndrome.
Four points are made in investigating the realities of women's digitalization. First, women are digital by nature. Regardless dysfunction of women's digitalization, it must be a newparadigmatic change for women in their entire existential mode. Digital technology much lessens women's labors in housekeeping, banking, shopping, nurturing, and even for their self-actualization. Second, women are victors in digital business sphere. Women are no longer digital divide in Korea. The rate of women's internet use has continuously increased since 2000 and in 2002 it exceeded half of the total female population. Third, but at the same time, women are victims of digital technology. According to the Year 2000's Handbook of Women in Korea, the numbers of victims as well as reports due to sexual harassment and libel cases, etc. on internet reach now 1,656,of which 406 are reported in 2003 as sexual harassment cases. Most of victims of this kind of cyber sexual crime are women. Fourth, women in digital culture are consumer rather than producer. Women are sexually commercialized through music videos, nude pictures, etc. where their images are still distorted and discriminated to sexual objects of cyber pornography on internet, or on mobile phone. Digital innovation has begun. However, if women are still treated as pampered slaves of men in digital contents, the innovation will remain incomplete.
A new account of woman spirituality in protestant Christian perspective is proposed. First, women would suffer with false concept of woman's self realization, e.g., new millennium edition of "Snow White." Second, the source of protestant woman spirituality is God. In New Testament, the spirit of Christ is now our new identity. Thus anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him or toChristian community. Above all Christian woman's spirituality has to do with the Spirit of Christ. Third, here the paper argues six attributes of God's Spirit that can be found in woman spirituality: 1) The Spirit of God is androgynous. 2) Second attribute of the God's Spirit is wisdom & intelligence according to Exodus 31:3. 3) God's Spirit is sensitive. In Ezekiel 3:14 the way in which God shows His emotion and sentiment are all related to the nature of His spirit. 2 Timothy 3:16 shows sensitivity of God that is immanent of His Spirit. 4) Fourth attribute is moral character of God'sSpirit. It is discovered that the Old Testament in numerous ways recognizes the Holy Spirit as the source of inward moral purity, although not much the same thought is found in the New Testament. 5) Fifth attribute of the God's Spirit is vitality and productivity. God represents His energetic and transitive action upon human and Nature. Thus lower vitality, poorer spirituality. 6) Sixth attribute of God's Spirit is Aesthetic. The most profound aesthetic character of God can be found in his Garden of Eden. Because the nature of God is good and aesthetic, his creatures in the garden were good and beautiful. For God is the source of beauty and the good, the Spirit in human spirituality must be good and aesthetic. But if women only try to recognize and maintain their bodily beauty, the beauty is not holistic but incomplete.
Lastly, whether women in faith or not they are liable to be contaminated by six malignant issues that are specifically dwells in modern women's life. The best way to overcome or weaken the current issues, at first women must confront the reality, and seek for pedagogical opportunity in which their holistic spirituality can nurture. It is not exaggerated to say that today's women lost their genuine spirituality according to the current issues shown in the examples of the low rate childbirth, plastic surgery addict, and abortions. Thus one of woman's urgent tasks in digital era is to renew and reinforce their spirituality.
