The purpose of this paper is empirically to analyse the effect of exchange rate movement on export in pusan area. The empirical analysis involving two exchange rates of the￦/＄ and ￥/＄ over the period from 1965 to 1993 is conducted with the unit root tests, cointegration tests, error correction model tests, and the difference model tests. The ADF(Augmented Dickey Fuller)tests are employed for the unit roots tests and the error correction model tests to examine whether cointegration really exists between variables. The log difference model tests are employed because most variables have unit roots and there is a lack of cointegration between variables.
The results presented in this paper are as follows.
First, the elasticity of depreciation(the ￦/＄) of total export in Pusan is 0.978. This means the depreciation of the ￦/＄ helped the increase in Export in Pusan area. The elasticity of Appreciation(the￥/＄) is 0.43, but the effect on export in Pusan area is ambiguous because of statistical insignificance.
Second, The depreciation of the￦/＄ is effective to increase the export in Fishery Industry, the appreciation of the ￥/＄, however, is not effective in both manufacturing and fishery industry.
Third, the depreciation of the ￦/＄is effective in the order of textile, shipbuilding, steel and footwear industry. The effect of the appreciation of the ￥/＄ on the expert in footwear, textile, steel and shipbuilding industry is trivial.
