Song Young's History is a work which, producing a conflicting image of the traditional and the new, advocated pursuing the latter. The author insisted that the traditional symbolized by Wonsansahmha(遠山三霞) and his house should hand historical weight over co the new symbolized by his grandchildren such as Joonghoi and Wonhoi. And the new concretely represented the new system of the Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere pursued by Japanese Empire, as the Japanese flag flying at Wonsan's house symbolized. To convey this effectively, he assigned a role related to publicizing Japan's imperial policies to each character. History raises the problem that such aspect was not naturally presented by the internal logic of the development. Analysed centering around this, Song Young's pro-Japanese works including History may be judged as created by force. But the characters' attitude of raking Japan's imperial policies naturally without any internal conflict and the parts showing diat Japanese empire's domination of the Colonial Chomn was historically natural suggest that it should be considered a pro-Japanese play written willingly and without being forced. In addition, it is indicated that the reason why the playwright Song Young abandoned proletarian literature and chose performance play and pro-Japanese play was because he took the position of the KAPF who developed the theory of popularization centering around legitimate performances and was performance-orientated.
