Kim Chun-su presented the "nonsense" as his own unique poetic theory, but it is mostly a rewording of Surrealist poetics. Therefore it cannot be said to be his own poetic theory. His poetic theory is ridden with problems.
First, Kim Chun-su describes his poems as 'poems without a meaning' but in a strict sense, there are no such poems that do not have a meaning. What he means by it, is that his poems take 'subjective conceptions' as its subject and expresses it in a subjective manner.
Second, Kim Chun-su presents the concept of 'poetry of non object' as his original poetics, but it is actually what Avant-garde art, and its successor, post-modern art, both strive to achieve. Therefore no one person can claim it to be his/her own poetics.
Third, 'nonsense poetry' is the name of a genre in Western Literature, and therefore cannot be used in a personal way by any single poet.
Fourth, what Kim Chun-su means by the word 'sense' is not the same as 'meaning' of a phenomenologist, or 'significance' of a structuralist. It is a concept closer to that of general semantics or that of Post-structuralists such as Deleuze. However, the poet himself does not specify this, and therefore invites misconception.
Fifth, accordingly, Kim Chun-su's concept of 'nonsense' should be understood from the point of view of general semantics or In Deleuze's sense of the word.
Sixth, the extent of which 'nonsense' is achieved in Kim Chun-su's poems could be said to be at a mediocre stage. Therefore his poems do not meet the standards required of 'nonsense poetry' in the Western sense of the word.
Seventh, Kim Chun-su's 'nonsense poetry' is different from what is meant by it in the Western literary scene. In short, it simply means the picturesque description of the unconscious via language. However, since his poems call forth the intervention of the aesthetic consciousness, his poems are not Surrealist but its variant.
Eighth, Kim Chun-su often talks of ambiguous and contradictory things in an abstract manner, consequently arousing much discussion among critics. As a result, the poet was able to secure his place in Korea's literary world as an important poet.
