This paper examines diverse processes and ways involved in establishment of Hanseong Paekche(Baekje)'s control over the lo polities during the fourth and fifth centuries AD from an archaeological perspective. Before the emergence of common pot style throughout the region of mid-western Korea, relations hi between the center and local leaders were developed with the exch system and endowment of prestige goods. This stage can be regard that of indirect control by Hanseong Paekche in the early fourt century.
The next stage is characterized by increasing amount of presti goods endowed and increasing stratification among the local leader which is generally dated to the middle and late fourth century. Local polities located closer to the Hanseong Paekche center, such Maha-ri, Hwaseong, and Baekgok-ri, were integrated into the ce much earlier from the late third century than other areas. The thir stage is characterized by increasing integration of local leaders in the mid-western areas, exemplified by Sinbong-dong, Chseongju Mochon-ri, Nonsan, groups, into the Paekche administration expecially as the military organization. On the other hand, such small burial sites as Bugang-ri, Cheongwon, and Yongsan-d Daejeon, indicate Paekche's influence to the local towns.
