So far, Choi Chi Won's life after home-coming has been understood centering around his seclusion. While in Tang, he always thought of entering a government position. Therefore, Choi's life after returning to Silla needs to be understood in company with the politic situation of the King Gyeongmun's Royal family,
Choi left for Silla because GaoPian(高騈) lost his politic power and misguidedly believed in Taoism, King Heongang failed to get strong his regal power. After that, he was treated a literary man around king proffering an ideology for state affairs. He kept company with bureaucracies, who were people of the Royal family birth, taking charge of a government position for writing and tried to bring the authority of the King Gyeongmuo's lineage into relief throughout the writing activity,
In 889, there were many uprisings of the peasants in localities of Silla from place to place, Choi had wide experience in confusion of local society while in Tang, Since 890, he had held various posts, the vice-minister of Military division and the governor of DaisanㆍBuseong-Gun, in succession, During the time, he played two roles that were the protection of the capital and the pacification of local society.
He was charge of a government position for writing once again in 893, presented to the king a plan for the requirements of the time which was to bring the authority of King and the Royal family into relief in the next year, However, Choi had to roam about the provinces by reason of restraining influence which was in a position to criticize Queen Jinseong after proposal of his plan, He entered Haein-Sa with his family after Januaty of 898, Since then, Choi had stayed there all the time, And, in the end, he died in 908.
Choi was closely related to the Royal family of King Gyeongmun but not the others after King Hyogong. As a Confucian in the Head rank Six, it is a characteristic of his activity d1at he was a literary man connected with a special Royal family or the True bone aristocracy.
