This paper intends to examine the Korean translations of
Wang-Li's "History of Chinese Linguistics" and Pu-Zhi
Zhen's "History of Chinese Linguistics," two
representative books related to Chinese linguistics that
are frequently used as texts in
the graduate courses of Chinese department in Korea.
Limited to the part of phonology of those two translated
versions, this
paper discusses the problems of translating terms into
Korean.
It should be noted that Korea has a brief history of the
discipline of Chinese linguistics. Chinese phonology is a
field that
has a lot of unfamiliar terms which are hard to translate.
Hopefully, this paper might help to stimulate further
discussions
and, based on them, to develop the model of the terms of
Chinese linguistics.
