The author of Hou han shu is Bumyup(A.D.398~445). Bumyup was born in the country of Song during the period of the South Dynasty. Hou han shu is one of the most important books written on the topic of ancient Chinese history. In particular, Chapter 85, Hou han shu along with "Dongyi zhuan" of "San Cuo Zhi" have been cited as critical works in the study of the history of the Korean people. Although, both are considered important works, "Dongyi Liezhuan", written later, is not considered to be as accurate as "Dongyi zhuan". To enlarge our conventional point of view in regards to ancient Korean history, we need to consider the new contents included in "Dongyi Liezhuan", which cannot be found in any other historical texts written on the topic.First of all, it is critical enough to change the conventional point of view in terms of two issues. The location of Nakrang and diplomatic policy of Goguryoe in regards to the Chosun Dynasty. Second, the record of "Ye zhuan" in Hou han shu indicates that Chosun had taken Ye, Okju and Guryoe. This gives us a historical turning point in terms of specific records about the territory of Ancient ChoSun. Third, contained in the record of Buyeo in Hou han shu is the critical fact that the Nakranggun was located in Kukdong and not HanBanDo. In addition, the record of Goguryoe zhuan helps us to better understand the Goguryoe's territory and power over the HouHan at that time. Based on these important records, the "Dongyi Liezhuan" in Hou han shu can be considered the conclusive evidence needed to establish a new perspective, thereby making it possible to analyze and compare it with other history materials. In the long term, analysis of the "Dongyi Liezhuan"
will provide a big step towards the development of a detailed work on the topic of ancient Korean history.
