The Korean Language and Literature 31. 1-27. The aim of this study is to reveal commonalities and differences between North-Korean(NK) grammar and South-Korean (SK) grammar and to present a compromising proposal for standardization, For this purpose, we have examined Joseoneo riron munbeop as a representative NK grammar book.
The main contents of standardization proposals are as follows:
1. Part of speech: It is very hard to standardize the issues related to assignment of a part of speech to grammatical morphemes in Korean as NK and SK system have independent logic respectively. It is therefore necessary to pay more attention to the so-called to(토)-grammar of NK system.
2. Morphology: Adverbial case in SK grammar needs to be subdivided into different classes-locative. instrumental; and comparative. There is no need to have an absolutive case in NK grammar as it is a matter of case form rather than case function. The category of complement in SK grammar should be reconsidered as it is problematic.
3, Sentence components: NK and SK grammar have in common that the predicate plays a central role in describing a sentence structure. There is no difference in subject, object, ad nominal. adverbial. and independent, but a standardization is demanded for the differences in terminology and categories.
4. Sentence types: Sentence types can be classified as a declarative sentence, an interrogative sentence, an imperative sentence and a propositive sentence, according to sentence endings. (Seoul National University)
