The study investigated the perceptions of mothers of young children with and without disabilities about their concerns and preparation activities at their children's transitional period. The survey was developed, which included fourteen items related to the mothers' concerns and eleven items related to mothers' preparation activities at their young children's transition process. Eighty-eight mothers of young children without disabilities and seventy-nine mothers of young children with disabilities responded to the survey. The study had the following findings;
The first is that the main concerns of the mothers of young children without disabilities were their children's ability to be able to get along with their new peers and teachers whereas the mothers of young children with disabilities concerned their children's incompetencies for social adjustment to new environments as well as skills and ability learning academic subjects.
The second finding is that the mothers participated considerably in a variety of preparation activities to make their children's transition smooth. The mothers tended to especially provide their children activities or situations to enhance their social competence and independent functional skills. In addition, the mothers of children with disabilities tended to practice at home with their young children academic tasks presented from the formal educational programs.
