Self-Driving cars present significant opportunities for enhancing mobility. However, there is known skepticism when it comes to AI and technology uses in areas such as driving when there is unfamiliarity with the system. This study focuses on developing and evaluating a conversational AI onboarding assistant to enhance trust and user confidence for first-time users of self-driving vehicles. Our preliminary results show the potential for conversational AI in bridging the trust gap for inexperienced users of autonomous technology. Results from a pilot study involving five participants revealed improved trust and comfortability levels post-interaction.
