The synagogue is very important in the history of the Jewish people. The origin of the synagogue is unclear, but the synagogue served various functions and played a role in uniting the Jewish village community. During the life of Jesus and the birth of the early church, there were numerous synagogues in Palestine and the Gentile regions. The synagogue can be said to be the cradle of Christianity. The synagogue is frequently mentioned in Luke-Acts, which shows the life of Jesus and the history of the early church. This is because “promise and fulfillment” are the central themes in Luke-Acts. Jesus declared in the synagogue that he was the fulfillment of the Old Testament. In the Acts of the Apostles, it was mainly Paul who preached in the synagogue that Jesus was the Son of God and the Christ. Some responded to this message with faith, while others did not. The synagogue-related passages in Luke-Acts clearly show “promise, fulfillment, and response.” In Luke-Acts, the synagogue is the place where the gospel message must be delivered. Luke, who wrote the book of Acts, is sending a message of courage to his church, which is currently being persecuted by the Jews. By showing Jesus and Paul being rejected by the synagogue, he provides comfort to Christians who are currently being rejected by the synagogue. Luke makes the Christians of his time look with pity at the unbelieving Jews who still read and study the Old Testament in the synagogue, and convinces them that the Christians and the church who believe in Jesus are the true people of God.
