This study examines the actual verb usage observed in narrative data from Korean-Japanese bilingual children who are able to converse in daily Japanese. The results of the study are as follows: 1. The number of verb tokens and types used increases with grade level, and children with a higher level of Japanese use a greater variety of verbs. 2. A tendency to substitute basic vocabulary with a broad range of meanings (such as suru, yaru, motsu, etc.) was confirmed. 3. The influence of Korean was observed in the non-normative use of the existential verbs aru and iru, and the use of verbs such as sagasu and mitsukeru with broader meanings. 4. More mistakes were observed in conjugating the polite forms desu and masu. 5. A feature of "avoiding verb usage," which is difficult to observe in daily conversation, was presented. The significance of this study is that it used narrative data to show a part of the characteristics of heritage Japanese that cannot be seen from children's superficial daily conversation skills alone. Although the results of this research may not be sufficient, I hope that they will contribute to the development of heritage Japanese language education.
