This study aims to design hanbok school uniforms through hanbok history, design, product development education programs, and hanbok experiences for middle and high school students, the future generation of Jeju Island. Based on an analysis of hanbok school uniform usage in middle and high schools across other cities and provinces, this study developed a unique hanbok school uniform for Jeju. The design incorporated Oreum, a natural heritage, to reflect Jeju’s local culture and preserve its unique heritage. Specifically, Jeongmul Oreum and Tarabi Oreum, both horseshoe-shaped, served as the prototypes. The Jeongmul Oreum’s motif was created by applying still water, or spring water, between the horseshoe-type oreum and the stone walls of Jeju surrounding it. The motif of Tarabi Oreum was developed by applying Jeju’s autumn suppression throughout the horseshoe-type oreum to express the reed grass waves scattered in the wind. For middle and high school boys and girls in Jeju Island, the Jeongmul Oreum Textile pattern was used for female school uniforms and the follow-up pattern for male school uniforms. Both winter and summer uniforms were designed and visualized using 3D avatars. Through the unique culture and local resource research of Jeju, this study aims to promote pride in Korean clothes. Storytelling and design development can play a significant role in achieving this goal. By leveraging Jeju’s unique culture, we hope to activate the school uniform business, which has decreased due to the decreased number of students.
