This paper examines several aspects related to the typological study for Korean phonology. Above all, in order to provide practical help to Korean phonology, it is necessary to construct language samples based on previous studies. Relying solely on findings from other typological studies may restrict both the scope and depth of the investigation on Korean phonology. By leveraging typological analysis effectively, researchers can foster discussions that go beyond merely comparing Korean in terms of linguistic universals and particularities. This can also open doors to new or expanded studies, such as exploring the functional load of distinctive features or the contraposition of implicational relationships. Up to now, typological methodology has not been actively introduced to the study of Korean phonology. However, future research based on linguistic typology could significantly enrich our understanding of Korean phonology, broadening the perspective on the language as a whole.
