This study investigates the impact of spatial characteristics on user activation in urban regeneration parks, focusing on Gyeongui Line Forest Park and Seoullo 7017, two linear parks in Seoul. Through a comprehensive analysis, we examined how various design factors, including natural elements, accessibility, facility convenience, and management status, influence user behaviors such as frequency of use, duration of stay, and revisit intention. The findings indicate that each park’s unique features cater to different user preferences, resulting in varied patterns of use. Gyeongui Line Forest Park, with its emphasis on natural elements and ecological landscape, was found to attract users seeking leisure and a nature-centered experience. The accessibility of the park also positively influenced visit frequency and revisit intention. In contrast, Seoullo 7017, strategically positioned for accessibility and facility convenience, primarily serves urban commuters and professionals, with accessibility and convenience being key factors driving its frequent use and high revisit intention. This study highlights the importance of aligning park design with user characteristics to enhance urban park functionality. It also suggests that differentiated planning approaches are necessary to accommodate diverse user needs in urban spaces. However, this study has limitations, including its focus on two specific linear parks in Seoul and the reliance on subjective survey data. Future research should expand the scope to include various park types and employ objective behavioral data to provide a more comprehensive understanding of user activation in urban parks.
